Every little detail (yet vitally important to people with disabilities) has been thoughtfully considered. From the moment you park in the designated accessible parking spot, enter the accessible lift and explore all level access throughout, your relaxing break begins. (The B&B is ideally suited to Independent Wheelchair users and assisted walking users.) An adults-only B&B, your private haven comprises an enormous bedroom, with king-sized beds, a large bathroom with a roll-in shower, and your own private balcony. Ana Mandara Luxury Bed & Breakfast is an award-winning riverside retreat with a resident chef who serves delicious three-course gourmet breakfasts every day. Guests can opt for a twilight Seafood Banquet on the terrace overlooking the river. All dietary requirements are catered to, (just remember to let them know when booking). Guests can choose to book evening meals, the menu is a fusion of European and Australian flavours.

Relax on your private balcony or the large entertaining deck where the Hastings river winds its way to the Pacific Ocean. Kangaroos can be spotted on the grounds and daily playful dolphins viewed from the terrace. Whilst not accessible, there are options to enjoy the heated swim jacuzzi and onsite massages.
The property was custom designed to offer luxury without compromising on accessible features, giving it a warm and welcoming feel. The spacious bathroom offers easy access for a wheelchair to glide in and turn comfortably. There’s a wide step-free shower with a detachable showerhead, grab rails, and the comfort of a shower chair. The loo is built to accessible standards too.
The guest room is wheelchair accessible and designed to provide comfort with easy access to facilities including a private balcony with river views to watch the stunning sunset, boats passing and the possibility of Dolphin popping up to say hello.

Your hosts Leo and Jennell are wonderfully welcoming and go above and beyond to make your stay effortless. They are happy to assist with courtesy shuttle service into town, dinner reservations, tour bookings and local recommendations. The popular coastal town of Port Macquarie is well known for its long sandy beaches, coastal walks and koalas but you may be surprised to hear the region is a delightful destination for people who love arts, culture, great restaurants and wineries. as well. Port Macquarie boasts a hatted restaurant and plenty of cosmopolitan dining options. Many eateries pride themselves on fresh locally farmed ingredients for a true paddock to plate dining experience. There’s a number of local wineries in the area for an enjoyable day out. Jennell and Leon will share their favourites with you and assist with reservations.
Sections of the 9 kilometres Coastal Walk are very new and offer peaceful vantage points to enjoy the Hastings River views. It’s wheelchair accessible from the Westport Park to Town Beach along the beautiful Hastings River and iconic painted break wall. At Town Beach, water lovers can access the Sandcruiser Beach Wheelchair. It’s free to use and available during the patrolled season when lifeguards are on duty.
The Koala Hospital made the news throughout the world with the recent bushfires. It’s completely free to visit the Koala Hospital, open seven days a week with tours at 3 pm. The grounds of the Koala Hospital are accessible with disabled parking spaces in the car park and a path to the entrance. The areas near the enclosures are woodchip but there are several koalas you can see without leaving the path.
3/ Billabong Zoo is a multiple award-winning experience where you can get up-close and personal to Australian and exotic animals. You can pat, stroke, feed, hold, hear and see over 80 species of mammals, reptiles and birds. It’s set on 10 acres but it’s easy to get around and there’s ramps and lowered viewing glass on many enclosures.
The award-winning Hello Koalas Sculpture Trail encompasses over 65 one metre high koala sculptures dotted throughout the region. Each sculpture is a unique hand-painted artwork and you can follow the Hello Koalas Trail to view the beautiful koala sculptures at interesting destinations. There’s also a Hello Koalas Festival from the 6 – 8 June 2020 over the long weekend.
ArtWalk is an evening event during July when the streets of Port Macquarie come to life with art installations and pop up creative performances. The Port Macquarie CBD, its streets, intersections, cafes and cultural facilities become the stage for contemporary works from artists and creatives. Visitors are invited to experience the annual ArtWalk night held in the July school holidays and participate in other creative satellite activities. Whether you use a cane, walking frame, an electric or standard wheelchair you’ll find Port Macquarie town centre is a flat easy to navigate town.
The Town Centre at Short Street Plaza Car Park has a brand new accessible toilet block. It includes two accessible wheelchair friendly toilets that are open 24/7. A third toilet is a ‘Changing Places’ toilet and caters for multiple accessibility requirements, and includes an overhead gantry hoist, wheelchair friendly toilet and hand basin, and a height-adjustable adult change table.
