Indoor Skydiving – Experience the thrill WITHOUT jumping out of a plane. Discover an accessible experience and accommodation in The Gold Coast, and take advantage of an exclusive 20% saving for Accessible Accommodation followers.

When I watched Lonnie Bissonette, Payalympian jump out of a plane in his wheelchair I thought he was certifiably mad! I was also quite envious and in awe of his guts and determination. So when I discovered there is a way to experience the thrill without having to actually jump out of a plane, my first thought was ”I wonder if you could do it if you have a disability??”

Yes you can!

In today’s blog, I share with you an amazing accessible experience you just have to try if you are anywhere near The Gold Coast (Queensland Australia). Fortunately, Accessible Accommodation has three accommodation options to choose from should you wish to travel to the Gold Coast.

But back to the indoor skydiving.

How does Indoor Skydiving work?

Indoor skydiving is safe and fun for people aged 3 and up, and is accessible to people with most types of disabilities. An indoor skydiving wind tunnel enables people to fly in a state-of-the-art, fully-controlled, ultra-safe environment. Simply lean through the door and you’re lifted into flight on a cushion of air! Click HERE to see a video demonstration.

Who can do it?

This is the part I am most excited about! This accessible experience caters to people with the following disability challenges:

  • Wheelchair users
  • Amputees
  • Cerebral Palsy
  • Quad and paraplegics (they have a special harness that these people can fly in to support their lower limbs).
  • People with mobility restrictions
  • Hearing loss or partially deaf
  • Low vision
  • Psychological disorders.

Flyers are accompanied by a highly qualified instructor at all times to help them learn to fly their body.

The nature of the activity means that carers can go through the whole process with the participant and provide assistance if necessary without having to pay any entrance fees. Only if you choose to jump into the airflow itself would you need to pay for your part in the experience.

However, there are some restrictions and the crew at iFly put your safety as their top priority. So if you have any of the following issues, it’s a no go activity I’m afraid.

  • People who have had prior shoulder dislocations
  • People with back or neck injuries,
  • Women who are pregnant
  • If someone is wearing a hard plaster cast
  • Weight limit: If you are under 180cm tall, the weight limit is 105kg. If you are over 180cm tall, the weight limit is 115kg. Customers that do not fit into either of these categories yet are under 135kg may opt to pay an additional $30 to be flown by a specialist instructor – further terms and conditions apply. If you don’t fit any of these categories, please contact them and discuss your personal situation.
