Fuerteventura is an oasis in the Atlantic. White and luminous, the
island extends its immense beaches of brilliant, golden sands alongside
the turquoise of crystal-clear waters, which will make you feel as if
you are in paradise. You can enjoy the sun and the sea in dream-like
locations, where you can lose yourself and forget about the passing of
time.
Known as the peaceful island, Fuerteventura, the
second largest of the Canaries, offers you truly outstanding landscapes,
such as the legendary Mount Tindaya, to which the native people used to
attribute magic powers and which even today still conserves important
remains of those inhabitants; or its undulating plains dotted with
ancient mills for grinding `gofio´(flour made from toasted cereals),
which is still today an essential ingredient of the island’s delicious
cuisine.
Small coastal villages full of flavour and
tradition display their most typical architectural styles including
churches, chapels, castles and a network of museums. You can take a
historical tour of this interesting island, which also boasts of its
varied craftwork featuring openwork, basket-making, wood and clay.
This
island, with thirteen protected natural spaces, shows off its exoticism
with palm trees and tamarisks, and the much-appreciated aloe vera, with
which traditional cosmetic products of great benefit to the skin are
made.
Walk along pathways between exotic volcanic cones, or
dive to underwater settings of indescribable beauty; or pit yourself
against the wind and waves at windsurfing, a sport which finds the best
possible conditions for holding the World Championships here each year.
